RTW Connection: Josiah Project 12 Current Ministry: YWAM missionary Location: Roaring Creek, Belize
In 2003, I spent ten weeks in Belize, Central America for my second summer in Rock the World’s Josiah Project. I was a volunteer, along with another JP alum (Ian MacLellan) at a Youth with a Mission base, where we served in many ways, including organizing and working with three vacation Bible schools. A big part of this ministry was playing games with kids and really listening to them. We found that the kids didn’t know how to relate to us at first, since they rarely receive anyone’s complete attention. But we kept coming back. On the last day, we asked the kids what they were thankful for. This is when we really felt the impact of God’s presence in their lives that week. They were thankful for a lot of things - but surprisingly, they said they were most thankful for us! Despite all the difficult non-attentive moments, these kids witnessed God’s character and steadfast love through our love for them. All we had to do was obey God and love them.
