Josiah Project: Transformation Through Community
"They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer... They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people." (Acts 2:42,46-47)
Essential to Josiah Project is the aspect of living in community. During the entire summer, participants live and work together. They daily gather in "Prayer & Share," addressing any conflicts, discussing their experiences, and praying for each other. God uses this community as a tool to shape the character of the individuals in the team. When you live in such close proximity with other believers, the community becomes like a mirror that reveals both your gifts, and your “warts”! Outside of community, these may never be discovered.
Eric Geisbert (Josiah Project Team 13) learned through living in community "how much our own lives affect the lives around us." Before doing the Josiah Project, Eric had a very negative view of himself. While daily working alongside each other, his team members noticed Eric’s pessimism and challenged him about it. They saw all the ways God had gifted Eric, and so they told him that not only was his attitude based in a lie, but it was also a drag on the team. He didn't need to be so down on himself. Eric had never realized how his feelings about himself affected those around him. God used the team to show Eric his profound value and worth in God's eyes. Josiah Project is a living experience of Proverbs 27:17: "As iron sharpens iron, so one sharpens another."
Josiah Project is more than an internship or training program. Josiah Project is engaging in God's Kingdom by participating in community and becoming the Body of Christ. If you're in college or know students who are, check out Josiah Project, an experience with God in community.
